Renewing an SSL Certificate is usually the same procedure as obtaining a new SSL Certificate (when you renew you need to replace the physical SSL Certificate on your server), with the added benefit of being able to renew early without losing any validity. We don't recommend that customers leave renewing their SSL Certificate until the last day in case of order queuing or delays in processing.

We recommend generating a new CSR and Private Key. Where possible avoid using an existing CSR as this will ensure the Private Key will match the SSL Certificate that is issued.

This is due to limitations of the Internet Information Server (IIS) renewal procedure which may cause the renewal to fail.
